Maurice - I think you might miss the reality that there is a lot of law breaking in the US. Speed limits and drug laws get broken every day.

There are over 2 million people in prison in the US, and the US tends to be lenient on first offenders and usually has high standards of evidence.

As for trying your method with red lights, it is not very advisable when cross traffic will be moving at 40 to 60 mph.

About 10 years ago I was almost hit by a car running a red light on deserted streets at 4 am. If I had had the capability of catching up to the car, there would have been a crime that would have a victim...

When you read of airline passengers tackling somebody for not behaving, that may be actually rage and slightly misdirected vengence. It's not discipline.

The repression is the government's attempt to keep a lid on a boiling pot.

Real countries have real people. Real people act like people. Nanny states want to have kindergartens were all the citizens behave well else they are repressed.

I love freedom! That's why I can go to Iran, Nigeria, Indonesia, Thailand etc. I know how to handle.

People who grew up nanny states need a cop at every corner. They can act by themselves.

Great points! Hm, very nice angle of viewing!

Now I found another reason for my relocation back to the mainland China, although crossing is excessive most of the time. I always cross the street when vehicle traffic is absent or when risk of my well being is low. For this, I often got reminded by companions and cold eyed by nice highly civilized bystanders.

Another event during the weekend is that we got stuck at O'Hare in Chicago for over 3 hours. We had to got home at 3:00 AM, basically ruined our whole Monday. What is the point to get back so early in the morning? I joked to others that travellers' (our) rights were completely ignored since no one would even have thought to mention this to the counter. This would have not happened in mainland China. We would have demanded a meal with a hotel stay and fly the earliest flight next morning. This demand would have been granted.

Again, thank you very much for your refreshing reminder!

Best
