But in the north, quiet preparations for a coup in Lebanon?

DEBKAfile reports: Lebanese prime minister Fouad Siniora praises Hizballah’s cooperation Tuesday

August 30, 2006, 1:31 AM (GMT+02:00)

He reported that Hizballah had enabled the national army to intercept an arms consignment from Syria in the Lebanese Beqaa Valley. In Tyre, its fighters had surrendered their weapons to Lebanese troops.

DEBKAfile adds: Hassan Nasrallah is making a show of cooperating with the Lebanese army and contributing to calm in the south – until he has completed his preparations for a fresh offensive and takeover of the center of government in Beirut.

In continuing IDF counter-terror operation, 5 armed Palestinians were shot dead Wednesday in the embattled Shijaia district of Gaza City

August 30, 2006, 12:03 PM (GMT+02:00)

A military bulldozer hit a roadside bomb. There were no Israeli casualties. Six Palestinian terrorists were killed in clashes Tuesday, a seventh caught heading for an attack on a strategic target in Ashkelon through Gaza’s beach.

Earlier this week a 150 m tunnel was uncovered leading from inside the Gaza Strip to the Karni goods crossing into Israel primed for a Palestinian terrorist attack - whether on the oft-bombed the border terminal or a cross-border raid like the Hamas assault in which Gilead Shalit was kidnapped on June 25. Palestinian terrorists consistently target the Gaza-Israeli border crossings even though they are Gaza's lifeline for essential supplies.
