In government, you make policy based on actual situations, likely scenarios and available resources.

Yep. That is what each administration does. Some better than others. Some more timely than others. Some spin the scenario or situation for political, propaganda or other reasons.

I ask you to describe how this "war" unlike any fought before can threaten our existence, and I don't see an answer.

If you can't see the answer, you're not looking very hard. Has the muslim terrorist groups been able to escalate the threat and the damage since the 1970's? Emphatically yes!!Translation: Have they moved from killing one or two to dozens to hundreds to thousands? Should they achieve the weaponry, would they escalate further to hundreds of thousands or even millions? Of course.

It's just different. This is a completely new war but it's just like Hitler in 1938. It's a total war that threatens our existence but our enemies will not coalesce to threaten our existence, for some reason that remains obscure.

DB, they have been coalescing for some time. Not sure where it began, but the madrassas is one possibility.

Regarding Hitler. His big issue was the Jews. The muslims big issue is the Jews and the West. Significant difference IMO.

The idea is to hit, run and not be hit. Exactly right. But....

I will repeat - please describe how this vague mush becomes an existential threat to our Republic. I never used the words "no legitimate threat by terrorist groups", I asked how it is a mortal world war situation that demands a commensurate response.

I ask you - Is the current response by the USA and the West commensurate to the threat?

Feel free to enlighten me.

You're asking too much. ;-)
