Gary, these are not your father's Republicans, and not even conservatives. The reason Soros put so much money up to defeat Bush-cheney is not because he's liberal, he isn't. It's because he sees the borrow and spend economy as leading us off a cliff. We have somewhere between 7-13 trillion in new debt as a result of this Bush borrow and spending but don't tax the rich economy. Meanwhile under Clinton everything was paid for and more, and the stock markets flew high despite rather high interests.

Also, the middleclass are taking it on the chin now, so eventually consumer spending will get very badly hit. You know how tough this economy is for average people. Wages are down and benefits are almost nil. It's really a receipe for disaster. And tax cuts will not prop that up. Besides, these tax cuts are another former of deficit spending.

I'll bet you can't find a single traditional conservative intllectual who hasn't come out against Bush-Cheney recently, and doesn't secretly wish they'd be impeached and indicted. Barry Goldwater would be up in arms against these Bushies. They take the Texas tradition of dirty politics and profiteering to a whole new level. They make Nixon look like a boy scout.
