Re: "I am not a big fan of central control. It is still not always a good idea to take bad situation and instantly correct it."

Who said anything about 'instant'?????????

Not me. (Nor is any politician or world official that I know of calling for an 'immediate' move to free market set currency rates.)

Still... as I pointed out: the *longer* they resist moving to free market rates, the GREATER the problems that will be produced, and the more harm that will be imposed around the world. The problems are ALREADY huge.

Re: "The tyrants would soon be deposed if economic prosperity spread too rapidly. They would lose control of much more than the economy."

LOL! I think you've got THAT ONE 100% backwards! :-)

'Too much prosperity' AIN'T what the leaders are fearing, that's for sure! :-)

What they are AFRAID of is that, if they don't keep the prosperity spreading out among the common people... mostly among the huge numbers of rural poor, that the poor will RISE UP and over-throw the Communist Party Bosses.

If the Yuan were *immediately* (as you imply...) moved to free-float, their manufactures would be raised in price, and this could cause them to lose foreign sales... and this might feed back and produce layoffs or lower levels of hiring, and labor unrest --- the ONE THING the Communist bosses fear.

(Excepting, perhaps, manufactures who's costs have a very large input from oil and energy and other natural resources built-in to them. THESE products or services might actually BENEFIT from a stronger Yuan!)
