I was in the stands with my dad at age 9 when Willie made that classic world series catch off of clevelands vic wertz. I learned about civil rights first from jackies heroism and then from willie's play. Mets have a predominantly latin team and this has affected the way i look at immigration. Guys like pedro are so bright and have the joy for life hard wired into their personna in such a way that it makes me less scared of the folks crossing our border seeking a better life.
