Knaves: Paul Hackett, for sinking to that old standby, the Nazi analogy, during a debate.
On Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor" the other night, guest host John Kasich invited Iraq war veteran and former Democratic candidate Paul Hackett to debate Dan Senor, the former spokesman for the Coalition Provisional Authority in Iraq. As these things often do on cable news, when the discussion turned to the Iraq war, things got rather heated.
Asked to respond to a comment by Mr. Senor, Mr. Hackett called his fellow guest "Herr Senor." Mr. Kasich, visibly confused, asked Mr. Hackett what he meant. "I'm talking about your guest, little Unterfuerher of Propaganda, Mr. Senor there who's an apologist for the failings of the CPA," he said.
At this point, Mr. Senor had every right to employ the William F. Buckley Jr. response to being called a Nazi ("Stop calling me a crypto-Nazi or I'll sock you... and you'll stay plastered"). He didn't. As a Jew whose mother survived the Holocaust, Mr. Senor probably doesn't feel the need to defend himself from knaves like Mr. Hackett who think Nazi references are the epitome of wit.
Of course, it's doubtful anyone would have objected had Mother Senor socked Mr. Hackett, this week's Knave.

What about Bush's military "victory"? We can't deny him that can we? It might take 40 years, but in the end, if we put 100% of the assets and force of the USA into it, Iraq will be pacified. Of course there won't be any people left alive but that's okay, so long as Bush "wins".

Reminds me exactly of LBJ and Nixon, both refusing to reverse their wrong-headed Vietnam policy out of stubborn pride and arrogance. As a result 55,000 Americans died, about two milion in all and we still haven't paid back the money we borrowed to fight that war. Iraq too is all on the national credit card, every dime.

Hello ksuave,

Your opinions have merit but don't kid yourself....the US and Israeli efforts have been with kid gloves on. Israeli bombs kill a few civilians and the world shudders...the arabs jihadists blow up civilians daily and the media presents it as guerilla warfare. The Arabs are not doing anything cunning other than winning the propaganda war. When the time comes that they force nastiness, they will find out exactly what wrath they have wrought upon themselves and their "people." It won't take but 1 nuclear detonation.......we have the capability of turning the dirt over with no place left to hide using conventional weapon but it kills "civilians" and we don't want to do that. When the stakes get high enough, civilian casualties and media coverage won't matter.

Take care,

LT
