There are many different kinds of infinity, and some of them are demonstrably bigger than others. Aleph-0 (the 0 is pronounced "naught") and "power of the continuum" are the only names for infinities of particular sizes that I can recall. Here's a link if you want to dig into it. ii.com

And yes, 0.999... is demonstrably identical to 1, though I have no memory left as to how to prove it. Here we are getting into the wonderful world of calculus and infinite subdividability.

Life seemed so simple back in the day when I was a math honours student, at least till I got to n-dimensional symmetries, where I received my comeuppance and became a social scientist instead.
