The economy is NOT kicking butt. That's just a lie. From the beginning, we know Bush's policies are aimed at the top 1%, and those people have benefitted, plus maybe the 1% beneath them and some of the sectors like oil, weapons, drugs, hmo's and developers. Basically all the industries which should be regulated are allowed to do whatever they want under Bush, plus rich tax cheats are not pursued. So they all benefit.

But what about the 97% of the rest of the country? If you think the Bush policies have helepd the average American family, you're out of touch. Health and energy costs have soared 75% under Bush, rent and education have gone up about 50%. Health benefits, wages and job security are all down. So are government services. But the biggest not so hidden dump on the middleclass is Bush's trillions in new debt, which people are going to have to pay off one of these days, just not on Bush's watch.

Also, if you read the news today you see growth and real estate prices are plummeting. Donald Trump said last year that if real estate prices collapse, "look out below", because this economy is heavily mortgaged based on inflated real estate values, and the average consumer is deeper in debt that ever in history. In fact many people have been living off their cheap ARM loans which expire soon.

No, this economy ressembles 1973. And after the Vietnam War we had a long hangover. Also after Reagan we had the long hangover. This was mainly because of huge new debts that had to be paid off. And democrats are for balanced budgets so paying off debt will be one of their priorities. Bush has been borrowing and spending so many trillions. That is completely unsustainable. He should have done it like CLinton did. In fact he should have left Clinton's economic policies exactly as they were. CLinton gave us a boom market with surpluses. Bush's market has not been as good and is largely deficit spending driven. In fact, there is nothong conservative at all about Bush's economic policies, they're really just reckless, a sugar high in the short-term, then a downer.

You can't be serious about gasoline prices either. Obviously, the energy prices were manipulated upwards ever since Bush-Cheney first were nominated (and were close-close allies with Enron, the master manipulator of domestic energy prices). The phony excuses Big Oil has given us for the doubling of gas prices over the past few years are transparent. And look at the only three times prices have come down since June 2000:

- When Jeffords switched parties giving Dems subpoena powers to go after Cheney's secret Energy Task Force. The week before energy gougers were claiming a huge energy shortage in the US and not enough refineries. That refinery excuse is a big fat lie and used over and over.

- When Oil CEO's were called in to testify in congress. That was weeks after Katrina when they claimed there would be huge shortages. Suddenly, no shortage at all.

- When the GOP was in grave danger of losing control of congress. There is no reason given for the large drop in prices before the election. Notice that? So what is the reason? Pretty obvious. if Dems take congress they will investigate energy gouging and maybe windfall tax Big Oil.

Bob Woodward reported Prince Bandar saying to Bush in 2004 that if he wanted him to bring down oil prices before the 2004 election, he would. This proves the ability and motive. They do it whenever they need to do pacify angry consumers.

And as for unemployment, WAKE UP. The 4.7% unemployment numbers don't include tens of millions who have either given up looking, are part-timers, consultants, under-employed or otherwise not counted. The real figure is about 15%. But this was not the case in the 90's. Then we had truly full employment. The real prooof of full empoloyment is to look at the black teenager employment rate and the poverty numbers. Those are both way up under Bush. Also, today's jobs rarely include health care which is a huge-huge factor. And wages are not up, they are flat. You're not including inflation in your partisan claims.

Finally, Bush's jobs numbers are nowhere near as good as Clintons. CLinton created 22 million new jobs, and good jobs too. Bush has created something like 5 million which doesn't even keep up with the growth of new workers entering the work force.

Polls: Two Thirds Believe Country On Wrong Track, including on pocketbook issues (health care, wages, jobs, etc.)
pollingreport.com

This number has been consistent for a long time. If people were happy with the economy under Bush this number would be much lower.

In fact polls show that only about 9% of the country feel the economy is benefitting them. 9%. And you can bet some of those people are deluded. If people knew about the payoff of Bush debt that's coming they'd be much less enthusiastic.

Conservative icon Richard Vigeurie says GOP offers conservative voters nothing this election, Democratic House may help cut back on spending
by John in DC - 10/26/2006 09:11:00 PM

Richard Viguerie is commonly considered the father of direct mail marketing. He is one of "the" gurus of the entire conservative movement, going back decades.

Note that in this email he just sent to his list he not only blasts the Republicans, in shockingly harsh language, as offering voters nothing, he also says that it would probably be better if the Dems wont back one house of Congress.

And one final, very telling point. Viguerie provides a list of issues the GOP must focus on in order to win back ec economic and social conservatives - yet he doesn't mention one single social issue of concern to those who are commonly considered "social conservatives," the religious right. Abortion and gays are missing totally from his list. So are school prayer, the Ten Commandments, flag burning and pretty much every other issue the religious right cares and screams about.

We are witnessing the beginnings of a Republican civil war that is very much at odds with the current GOP leadership and the religious right.

Here's a portion of Viguerie's email (read the entire email/release here):

Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, warned Republicans that scare tactics against Democrats will not succeed in increasing social or economic conservative voters on Election Day.

“The big-spending, high-deficit, morally-deficient Republican Party hasn’t anything to offer conservatives except Halloween scare tactics about the Democrats. But since the GOP majority in Congress has engaged in an unprecedented spending spree, conservatives know that Democrats cannot be any worse and that divided government may lead to less spending,” Viguerie said.

“And conservatives have learned that, while Republicans sometimes provide significant symbolism on social issues, in truth, many of them have a disdain for values voters,” he added.

“Trying to frighten conservatives by yelling ‘Nancy Pelosi’ and ‘Harry Reid’ won’t work this time."
