I dont think I can agree with that statement. Right now Taiwan is doing FANTASTIC mainly cause OTHER COUNTRIES predominately the USA have invested a lot in manufacturing there. The Chinese too deal with Taiwan. Look at Hong Kong. The Chinese definitely OWN that area but they have wisely allowed it to continue on independently in many areas because it serves as an important banking and other outlet for China as well as Internationally. Personally, I think the Chinese are content to let things be as they are UNLESS Taiwan tries to state they are independent and not a part of China. Then, China will act.

As to the rest of your comments I think the people you read misinterpret what is going on. Bush IMHO has no desire to have any unpleasant relations with China. Bush, if nothing else is an Internationalist. He understands world trade and its advantages for all parties involved. jdn
