I'm telling you, from experience, that Suntrust does not charge me a penny for using my Suntrust Visa that is linked to my bank account, no matter where I use it, and I use it everywhere, every day, often multiple times a day, maybe 100 times a month, average. Regardless of whether the item purchased costs fifty cents or $500.

Same for my son with his Wachovia Visa.

And Suntrust and Wachovia are two of the top ten banks in the US.

but the charge I'm talking about is the ATM charge.

That charge is not particular to debit cards. I use my Amex charge card to get cash from ATMs and I get charged for it. The charge is for using the ATM. Doesn't matter what kind of card you stick in it.
