That might be true. But the UN has brokered a peace with Lebanon and israel in which Lebanon had no intention of keeping even one of the articles agreed upon. If Iran has the nuclear weapons, and israel destroys Iran, I see a need to bind the UN so that it's definite proislamic stance doesn't make things worse.
