I was in favor of Afghanistan and posted as such here on SI. And how is that war anymore "winnable" than Iraq? Hell, we supposedly killed some 300 Taliban fighters over the past couple of weeks, yet we suffered some of the most devastating suicide bombings there ever.. Doesn't sound like we're "winning" according to your criteria. And don't tell me that Iraq is different because we've antagonized Iran. Iran borders Afghanistan as well.. and they have been harboring Al Qai'da leaders, including Sa'ad Bin Ladin, OBL's son and heir apparent to Al Qai'da.Pull our military out of the the rest of the world except where a local population begs for our presence (and for something better than just to fight like unpaid mercenaries for their side). That means we pull out of Iraq. Oh.. I see.. create a vacuum of power and security? You know nature abhors a vacuum Bilow. So who/what do you think is going to fill that vacuum when we haul @ss and leave our business interests (including the flow of oil) vulnerable to the designs of our rivals and enemies?? Isolationism was abandoned as a viable political policy when WWII occurred. We know that we can't pull ourselves back into your own "Fortress: Amerika" and no longer provide political and military leadership or influence. Because what is our value to the free world is we're going to leave them to fend for themselves in the midst of wolves?? If the only only nation we're going to be willing to defend against aggression is our own, then eventually we'll find ourselves likely having that situation occur because all of our former friends have been overthrown by other regimes. Yeah.. that will be REAL GOOD for business..In Afghanistan, the people met us with parades and flowers, like I said they would back in 2001. In Iraq, they met us with sullen looks and gunfire. You are so full of sh*t!! You've never even been Iraq and you're able to make that kind of statement? When we first arrived, just about EVERYONE (except the Ba'thists) in that country welcomed US troops. You obviously forget the tower of Saddam being dragged down with the help of those US soldiers... The Shi'a welcomed us.. The Kurds welcomed us. The some 2 million Christians welcomed us.. The only ones who were p*ssed were the ousted Sunnis and some of the militant Shi'a, most of whom were still in Iran (Badr corps and Muqtada Al Sadr). And even now, aside for Sadr's Mahdi Army, most Shi'a get along rather well with coalition forces in the provinces that are outside of Baghdad. Hawk
