Hey, these guys might be great salespeople... So was John DeLorean - remember his stainless steel DMC-12 with it's sexy gullwing doors but uninspiring Renault drivetrain? He weaseled north of 100 million bucks from either the Irish/Brits/Scots to build a plant over there, and went bust in short order. Malcolm Bricklin got lots of buzz with his plastic gullwing sports model also. All in the dustbin of car history. I don't know that car geeks liked the EV-1, it was simply folks interested in being green. If you look back at the history of these small manufacturers, most promise the world in terms of performance/value/handling etc but go bust in short order. Hey, I wouldn't be surprised if the Tesla guys are buying a bunch of Thinkpad laptop lithium ion batteries and wiring them together to make this thing go <ggg>.

John

PS - Exactly what other 'solutions' is the Tesla being marketed better than?? What problem is a 100k 2 seat battery powered Lotus a solution to??
