>Jim, I honestly couldn't tell you which Intel "mystery" chips are the fastest without researching it.

From PriceWatch.com:

$ 555.00 - core 2 duo e6700 2.67ghz
$ 343.00 - core 2 duo e6600 2.4ghz
$ 232.99 - core 2 duo e6400 2.13ghz
$ 190.00 - core 2 duo e6300 1.86ghz

Which chips are the fastest? If you honestly can't tell, then I quite honestly think that you don't have a clue.

Uhh, isn't this simultaneously applying a double standard (you were just ranting about AMD's incomprehensible model numbers) and proving his point? (I.e. going to pricewatch to get clarification of the specifics for a product line is "research.")

Does that translate into the 'ole Mhz of the P4? Relative to other CoreDuos in the group...OK. Relative to AMD and other Intel chips? Hummm.

If you use those big numbers, 6300-6700, a $190 chip is only 5% slower than a $555 chip? Not to good 'a marketing there.

signed - Confused and clueless.
