His point is that Creationists show you a shuffled deck - and that they argue that since the odds for the deck to get shuffled in this exact order are very low, that proves that the shuffling must have been influenced - or directed - by an outside "intelligent designer". His reply is that this logic is faulty - and indeed it is -- as far as a deck of cards in concerned.

Life is not a deck of cards. Hypothetically, the "deck of life" cold have been "shuffled" differently (randomly), and what would result would be different forms of life. However, there is NO evidence of ANY different form of life in existence... the possibility is purely hypothetical...

There is no grounds for thinking that the material substrate of life could have been "constructed" in any other way which would be different from the one which we all know --- Therefore, the card analogy is in fact a stronger argument in favor of the creationist view, rather than for those who oppose it.

That's what I was trying to point out to the good Professor... but I'm not sure whether I succeeded.

...Just having a little fun... better than arguing politics... ;)
