The trouble with Bush was that he was convinced that "Iraq" would be a cinch and that in a few short months after the invasion, Iraqi oil could be used to provide funds for reconstruction. But he was wrong.

So was Cheney who once declared that Iraq was a remarkable success story prior to the November 2004 elections and, some time in 2005, he said that the Iraqi insurgency was in its last throes. Oh well, he was overly optimistic and living in a world all his own.
