There is video footage of WTC-7 that clearly shows that the building took FAR longer than gravitation would indicate to collapse. Yes, the final collapse was close to the acceleration of gravity, but the guts of the building fell out several seconds before that. To see the guts falling out, you have to watch the video VERY carefully. If one's mind is already made up, one will likely be unable to see the evidence of the internal collapse of the building for the same reason that any other type of true believer is unable to see evidence against their point of view. Here's the video: whatreallyhappened.com The main building collapse begins at about 10 seconds into the video. The collapse of the guts has reaches the roof and dumps the left side of the penthouse into the interior of the building about 7 seconds before that, about 3 seconds into the film. It is very easy to overlook. I didn't notice it until the government documents pointed it out to me. Initially, the penthouse on top of the WTC-7 building ran most of the length of the roof. But about 3 seconds into the film you can see the left part of the penthouse (near the smoke) collapse into the building. The roof of that part of the building does that same steady fall just like the whole building does 7 seconds later. What is going on is that columns (vertical members) inside the building (where the fires are hottest) are giving way and buckling and falling over. As they do this, the load gets redistributed to other members. When the column under the left side of the penthouse collapses, that part of the penthouse falls into the interior of the building. You can imagine all kinds of beams and columns falling inside the building. As that happens, the only thing left holding the building up is the external shell. The interior floors are falling too. As the interior floors collapse, the exterior walls are the last thing standing but they can't support themselves and collapse at about gravitational speed. See page 6 of this link: wtc.nist.gov To see just how big the penthouses really are, see page 12 of the above document for a plan, or page 16 for a photograph. Print those out, and compare the size of the penthouses in the undamaged building with the size of the remaining penthouses of the video film when the whole building starts falling 10 seconds into the film. You will see that by the time the whole building starts falling, the left (what government calls "east" which are on the right side of the drawing on page 12) side of the penthouse is already GONE! Once you understand that the building you are looking at 9 seconds into the film does not have the same shape as the undamaged WTC-7 skyline, then go back in the film and see where that skyline changed. It was back around 3 sedonds into the film. Now look at page 24 of the government link. You will see that the East penthouse is falling down first in a very clear photograph. Since the East Penthouse collapsed 7 seconds before the rest of the building fell down, the time the building took to collapse is longer than the time gravity would indicate by at least 7 seconds. There was no sudden unexplained collapse. They just didn't bother to send anyone into a dangerous place where they would have gotten better data. There's nothing special about gravitational speed collapses. When I was a kid I build card houses and that's how they collapsed. Buildings aren't nearly as indestructible as a lot of people think they are. Once you've hollowed out the guts, the rest is as weak as a house of cards. Steel or no steel, it is coming down at about the speed of gravity. The Kennedy shooting is a great example of a good conspiracy subject. I happen to suspect that the bullet that killed him was fired accidentally from an AR-15 held by a CIA agent that was stupidly standing up in a car behind the President. There was a book on the subject. But the reason the Kennedy shooting makes such great conspiracy theory is that there is so little documentary evidence. What can you say? Bullets are little and video footage is rare. The same cannot be said of the collapse of WTC-7. There is plenty of good eye-witness testimony and good quality photographic evidence that the building was extensively damaged by the collapse of one of the towers, and that it had raging fires going on inside. There is good evidence that the penthouse fell in at the end of the building that had the most damage. I really don't think that there is a case for a conspiracy here. I'm not stupid, and I'm not inclined to believe White House or anyone else's BS. When there was near universal belief in the presence of Iraqi WMDs, I was publicly saying that I doubted their existence. I thought it was obvious that invading Iraq would be a gold plated disaster and I thought it was obvious enough that the Bush administration wouldn't be blind enough to do it. Maybe I do tend to overestimate other people's intelligence. I certainly overestimated the intelligence of the idiots running this country. But as far as conspiracy theories and the WTC collapses, no, they haven't got me the least bit concerned that there is any need whatsoever to imagine that they were caused by anything other than airplanes and fire -- and I have looked carefully at the available evidence and I am as tough a sell as they come. And there is no reason to believe that I have overestimated anyone's intelligence with regard to the WTC collapes. It's just physics which is a lot easier to understand than motivations or intelligence. -- Carl
