No.. of course not TJ.. They're all guilty... And btw, it's funny you quote this "unsourced" comment (all they stated was that a couple of officers offered the opinion).. NOW.. as someone who ACTUALLY had interaction at various levels with people who dealt with these detainees, this was not an opinion that seemed to pervade our operations. We simply don't have the time to arbitrarily pick people up and cart them off the Abu G or Bucca.. Frankly, we generally had more important things to do.. Sure there were "mistakes".. There always ARE mistakes in a counter-insurgency where the enemy does not go out of their way to identify who they are. But I know the people I worked with generally had some pretty good information on who the bad guys were when they nabbed them. And often times any number of other people staying at the same residence of the guy(s) we were after would be grabbed and we just couldn't leave them there. So they would be detained and if not found of any immediate value, they would be sent to Abu G or Bucca for further processing. But there were also many times we would release them after a number of days, generally when the men were elderly, or some of the information became available that sustained their alibi for being where they were.... truthfully? the word 'fortunate' comes easily to mind. I think the point was TJ, that you're willing to call "inner-party democracy" in China a step in a long journey, yet snidely scoff at 11 million Arabs actually having the opportunity to elect their own government under VERY difficult circumstances. Thus, my point is that if some Arabs can manage to hold a national election under generally free and fair conditions, what's holding China up? Doesn't the opinion of the people being governed count for anything, or is this "inner-party" crap just an excuse for continued political nepotism among the party elites and their sons. Hawk
