Thames was wondering out loud if Americans like us don't secretly harbor a desire to be Fascists. It's almost an insinuation but not quite. He used an analogy for homophobes which gets me a little edgy. So normally I would agree with the 'GFY' sentiment but I am trying to get that thread off on a higher keel of discourse.

I think we can answer his query with dignity and authority, but I am not in the mood to do that today, and by agreeing with your response, I didn't rise to the level of discourse I require from others.

Maybe tomorrow. Maybe not. Maybe the idea for that type of thread is never going to work.

I looked closely at what he said. I definitely disagree with it but whether or not it should cause him to be banned for it is another question. I agree with you that it was provocational but most L/R discussion carries that, so I can't ban people for provoking others, unless they refuse to substantiate their view point with some rational. Then it is simply harrassment ... I banned Richnorth for that the other day.

I gotta hand it to thames for his ability to be so casually insulting. He can cram more insults into a single sentence than I can in a whole paragraph. Even attempts to be nice to him result in insults. He's out of my league, I won't respond to him. If more folks would do the same, maybe he'd get the hint and go elsewhere.
