Even on the issue of the Iraqi invasion, the question of would Gore have invaded is a hypothetical. I think most people would agree that he wouldn't but that still doesn't change the fact that the question is a hypothetical one. Hypothetical does not mean "no one has any idea what would have happened".

In any case the question wasn't "would Gore have invaded Iraq", but "would things have been worse if Gore was president". "Things being worse" is hardly limited to Iraq.
