You are confusing expansions and contractions within fairly normal business cycles with inflation and deflation. We have recessions on a regular basis, and prices in all sorts of things have their own cycles. But we have not had a period of deflation in my lifetime or yours. The deflationists have tried to say that this is going to be a very, very serious recession -- a depression. And if there is a depression then we will have to see what happens. But if we are facing a garden vatiety recession, there is no reason whatsoever to expect delfation and tons of reasons to expect inflation.
