Volcker on the Russian Central Banker:
channelnewsasia.com

Former US Fed chairman Paul Volcker has condemned this week's murder of Russian central banker Andrei Kozlov, saying it's a prime example of how corruption is the greatest challenge to international markets and cooperation today.

Mr Kozlov had spearheaded the campaign against fraudulent banks and money laundering as the No. 2 official at Russia's central bank, but died of gunshot wounds early Thursday.

"That's a question of whether countries can any longer expect to maintain sovereignty, tolerating corruption and then participate in the world economy. I think we had a dramatic and very sad event in that area, with the murder of Andrei Kozlov, the leading anti-corruption office in Russia, and one of the leading anti-corruption officials in the world. The murder of that brave man I think demonstrates the struggle that is going on in between the forces of corruption struggle and the forces of what we might broadly good governance which is the theme of this conference," said Mr Volcker.
