What if the reporter had said instead: "Senator, Considering your history of displaying a confederate flag, even in campaign commercials, are you now more sensitive to the dismay expressed by some of your black constituents?".

This is the acceptable question.

Think about this...

What if the reporter had said instead: "Senator, there are reports you may have Protestant origins. The Christians have been discriminating against minorities for thousands of years. Considering your history of displaying a confederate flag, even in campaign commercials, are you now more sensitive to the dismay expressed by some of your black constituents? If so, explain how your recently obtained knowledge has changed your perspective".
