We still disagree.

If posts otherwise violate thread or SI TOU's they can be dealt with accordingly. You posit an example of harassing posts that amount to personal attacks. If so, they are sanctionable on that basis and should not be sanctionable simply because they were "directed to" a particular person.

I tend to disfavor too many vague rules and regulations.
Just enforce the simple rules already in place and utilize the tools in place (like ignore) if one is of a mind to have a computer program screen out material one is disinterested in viewing.

That is the essence of free speech, after all. We don't restrain the speaker (unless the speech does not merit constitutional protection) and we leave it to the audience to perform the screening function for itself.

This is, after all, an adult forum. I don't think we need to devolve to a kindergarten level of restrictive rules of decorum in order to enjoy a public debate.

Of course, you're free to disagree with me. You can even tell me so....:-)

For me, the Ignore function is invaluable. I have 79 Ignores. Mostly people who get banned everywhere they go, anyway,

Issue 3: I like the new recommend feature. It allows us to demonstrate some sort of value we hold to particular comments or the quality of commentary from particular posters. I would also like to see some sort of disapproval feature. Some of the personal attack and thread raging might disipate if we had some other way of showing disapproval. Well we have rational comment but ... eh

It might make sense, but you would also get a lot of disapproval votes for very rational posts, by people who hold the opposite political opinion, or by conspiracy theorists and such.

As for ignore, as long as you don't turn it off you don't read the posts. If someone is so sensitive that the mere fact that someone has posted to them, causes them emotional harm even if they don't read the content, then they probably should stay out of forums where political and other controversial issues are discussed.

I might agree with telling someone to stop posting to someone else on the thread when there posts have been harassing. But I don't think it should be common, and I think it should require a relatively high level of justification, not just a "I want a no to or about with you".
