I see nothing childish about rules that raise the value of topical or issues based discourse over personal differences. I note that the participants here are welcome to express personal differences with recognition that the goal of the thread is to advance civil discourse. There are many rules based forums that are very adult and that restrict participants from personally addressing one another except as it advances the discourse. This thread is no where near that restrictive. "This is, after all, an adult forum." Yes it is. I am sure, you are well aware of forums that have disintigrated into a handful of personas posting hateful snipes back and forth day in day out. ... a result of simple rules in place ... I personally think it is unrealistic to go to one of those forums and propose a reasoned discussion (Tried many times) Persons seeking a different quality of discourse may leave that to have more civil forums like this. "Just enforce the simple rules already in place and utilize the tools in place (like ignore) if one is of a mind to have a computer program screen out material one is disinterested in viewing." Persons who desire more articulation and a broader category of topical and issues based converstation can come to forums like this, and shouldn't worry unrealistically about personal intimidation that is beyond reason. Like I said before. A notoorabout should never or rarely be called for. Like you said most people who might qualify would probably be banned well before it comes to that anyway. But, like I said I still don't see why it would be a 'ridiculous' thing where called for, which may be never. Feel free to disagree as always. Have Peace, gem
