In my experience, there is an endless and insoluble debate between those banned and the moderator, with the bannees crying prejudice at every turn and the moderator standing on TOU enforcement. If you tend to ban folks who get abusive about a certain position they hold in stocks or politics, there will never be agreement about the fairness of a ban. Deleting posts would raise their hackles even further, no doubt.

My answer would be tough - my thread, my rules. If I choose to live in a deed-restricted gated community, I can expect everyone to uphold the standards and violators to be fined, kicked out or never let in in the first place. Someone who starts an auto junkyard in their front yard won't be allowed to keep the rusting old hulks there for long.

A moderated thread should be no different.
