I had labored under the delusion that Mr. Kovacs had bought the orchard in a white Corvette.

But it was a Corvair, a station wagon, no less. Didn't even have a "my other car is a Rolls" sticker on it. How ignoble!

<<Ish, I would surmise you have never driven in Southern California at the start of Monsoon Season.>>

Never driven there but have driven on Illinois black ice. Slick enough that if you get stopped you can still slide sideways to the side of the road.

He was driving his wife's Corvair, she was driving his Rolls. They found a cigar next to him and figured he was lighting up. Alcohol was also involved.

Jeeze, back in my youth I used to drink and drive, hit a patch of ice once while lighting up and went outta controll. Went back the next day and looked at the track in the snow. Must have been an angel driving my Jeep as it went around the trees and poles. I couldn't have done that sober. Now I'm driving sober but still driving a Jeep, don't want to take any chances.
