Mormons HAVE eliminated bigamy/poligamy. Offshoots of the religion may still practice it, but they're explicitly banned by the church.

To be clear, I'm not a Mormon, and am not commenting on their religion -- my comments are about the people, who I find to be great friends and neighbors. Even if they did choose to have multiple simultainous spouses (as opposed to the multiple serial spouses common in other religions), I wouldn't much care.

They have eliminated bigamy from their church, and they condemn it in others. Not much more they can do. They don't have the power to control everyone else, and if they did have that power and the willingness to use it it would be far more negative than positive.
