I've been thinking about your comment. I'm wondering if such things happen as often in other countries as they do here. If they do, I haven't heard about them nearly as often. So, if such things are a primarily American phenomenon, I wonder why...

Similarly, I wonder if it is a more modern phenomenon, or if it has been going on for hundreds of years.
