Airports and ports might have been provided privately.

In any case I never said that everything government does harms the economy. Taxing (when considered in isolation) always harms the economy.

Why would anything be considered in isolation? What is the point of such an observation?

In some areas the government spending might help the economy more than the taxing hurt it (or in other words the government spending might help the economy more than the private spending and investing of the same funds would help the economy).

However those areas are only a fraction of government spending.

It seems to me you need to get a better perspective. As civilizations go, we are fairly advanced. Such civilizations expect certain services to be performed. Gov't performs those services. To get the money to perform those services requires money; hence taxes. Its why they call taxes a necessary evil. To keep harping on the issue suggests a bit of immaturity.
