and this has tipped me over into thinking that I should probably wash bagged produce, just to be certain.

I heard or read somewhere during this incident that it can be in the spinach, not just on it, so washing might not protect you.

Row croppers in my area use a lot of pig manure as fertilizer. The wagon they use to spread it is called a honey wagon.

You pretty much covered what I was thinking. I'm still waiting to see if someone can show that my statement was wrong. It's a lot easier to cast aspersions than to establish that those aspersions have any basis in truth.
