alan, not everyone wants to be saved and stuck in heaven for eternity. It's each person's choice. God gives everyone that choice and many will not find it or want it. Jesus said wide is the path to destruction and many will go that way and that he was the narrow gate and few would find it. Jesus even warned He way even erase some names from the book of life as a result of certain offenses. Salvation is a gift but the person has to accept the gift. God does not force anyone to be saved.

I just had a thought that maybe you cling to your doctrine because a loved one may have died without accepting Jesus. I hope that's not true. Many of us have similar situations though.
