yeah I know, for that reason I half hope gas stays high.
But the image of the Prius is more than just cheap gas. Its central to the whole global warming theme and doing your part. I mean people look at hummers with a bit of disgust these days where I am- and like it or not, CA does create many of these coastal trends

Exactly.

I am glad I am not short anything directly; I own bear funds but no possibility of margin calls. Also, I am just sitting tight on my canroy positions, especially COS.UN.

Hedge funds that have gone short energy may be putting their cash/credit/margin into long index positions (QQQQ, SPX, etc.) Expect a lot of hedge funds to get whipsawed and liquidate over the next six months.

Politics: It's hard to guess how the congress will turn out after the election. Keeps see-sawing back and forth. It does not much matter which party gets or keeps control, however. There is huge damage already done to the United States's financial system, its money, its credit, and its reputation.
