The challenge the world faces…is to find a way to channel this energy into a self-reflection of their own values.

I utterly agree. When I read this board’s more vitriolic posts, I think the exact same thing. If one were to step back from this board for a few weeks, do you think one might develop a different approach to the “other side,” or would one tend to fall back on old habits? I think of the reoccurring peace plans between the Israelis and Palestinians, or the old Troubles of the Catholic and Protestants.

I admire George Mitchell for steadfastly listening to all sides of the issues in Northern Ireland, and getting to the Good Friday accords after many years of negotiations. He said in an interview that he quietly listen to all the crimes of the IRA by Protestants who lost family members in the conflict, and also all the crimes of the RUC described by Catholics. A blood feud between groups must be the most intractable of all - how does one group ever find justice from the other?

I see from a web biography of Mitchell that he is involved with ME studies. Maybe his group will come up with a viable approach - sooner rather than later.

Best to you
