Re: Like Intel let the press run with the misconception that they have a quad core chip?

No misconceptions there at all. It has been common knowledge for months that Kentsfield would be two Conroes in one package. Intel didn't hide or omit that fact.

It is also known that the term "chip" is commonly used to refer to the entire x86 module, rather the just the silicon die. Many articles talking about Intel's "quad-core chip" explicitly state Kentsfield/Clovertown are made from two Conroe dies. Once again, no one has been left guessing about what Kentsfield and Clovertown really are.

On the other hand the some of the most knowledgeable people covering the x86 hardware industry apparently were kept in the dark about Socket-F in 4x4 even though AMD has been rather active in pushing the 4x4 concept. Has a picture of a 4x4 motherboard even been published yet?

Or maybe it was a knee-jerk reaction to the success of X2?

Intel definitely moved up their timetable on Core 2 and Kentsfield/Clovertown due to AMD's success with A64 X2. AMD can thank themselves for Intel's recent rejuvination.

There should be some nose-grabbing going on and less posting of such drivel.

I'd be happy to hear your explanation why just about everyone in the hardware press had been stating 4x4 would be on AM2 until recently.
