I think you will find that there aren't any Repubs who have done anything BUT just do as you suggested. People whom I've heard interviewed have ALL to a person have suggested that Foley was totally bizarre in his behavior. I believe that people were willing to give him a bit of space seeing the emails. Seeing the IM's is entirely another matter!!!

I think both parties are afraid of the "gay" issue....and are afraid to confront bad behavior no matter who is doing it...gay, straight, race, creed, religion, or whatever.

Illegal behavior is bad behavior in my opinion.

...still think the smartest and classiest thing to do would be to stop being defensive, and just take the smacks.

It seems as if several people talked with Foley privately. Of course, that doesn't deter someone who's a real danger. So Foley needed to have been gotten rid of - kicked out of the House. But was there cause for that till the explicit IM's came out? I suspect not.

...stop being defensive, and just take the smacks.

Does that mean the Republican leadership as a group should say yes, we admit everything the Democrats are accusing us of - neglecting to protect children, being moral hypocrites, etc.?

I don't think so.

I also don't believe for a minute the Foley IM's just happened to be released publicly a couple weeks before an election by coincidence.
