Interesting about Einstein's academic time. I noticed during my time in the academic world that there were some people who were great at remembering things. My forte was to think things, which wasn't a lot of use unless I also did a lot of remembering so that I had things to think with. Which I found arduous [remembering a whole pile of irrelevant stuff - irrelevant to me anyway].

Academia is mostly about remembering stuff. One could get super high grades in school by rote learning. Learn to label something with a whole pile of arcane latin words and one could be a registered brain box. Google can do that. At university too, it was mostly just a matter of learning all the screeds of things that those clipping the ticket thought was a good thing to know.

Another category of learning was "problem solving". A method to solve a bunch of simultaneous third order partial differential equations for example. Once one had the method learned, one could get high marks by just trundling through the process. Sure, there were little glitches, so rote learning wasn't quite enough, but it was most of the process.

You can be sure a LOT of Einstein's DNA was lost through history. Those twin towers of moronicity, the Two Adolfs, who conducted genocide against Jews, together with a lot of help from the populations who were as rabid as they were [and still, largely, are], did the OPPOSITE of what their stupid eugenics programme should have done.
