Geode,

Even with 11 recommendations, I still have to disagree with some statements in your post 205411:

Republicans are incompetent, at governance.

I strongly believe that the Republicans have governed exactly how they planned to. I’ll accept the criticism that I have a simplistic view of the Republicans in our highest offices. My view has been for a very long time that the principles that drive the current policies originate with Reganomics, and to the policies of Barry Goldwater’s generation.

Simply put, entitlements are bad for us, and more generally, the New Deal programs made us lazy, and those of the Great Society made us stupid (to spend so much); and therefore, they all must be dismantled as soon as practicable. If the US treasury is emptied by means of a war, this could sound the death knell that they have long hoped for. So from their standpoint, they have governed “properly” during their tenure.

They're not democrats, they're fascists.

Sorry, again I must disagree. The Romans were “democrats” in their republic even though those in power only represent their own interests in the Senate. Our democracy started with a 2/3-point system for a subset of our citizens, and had no suffrage for women. I think many of these same Republicans would at least condone this type of democracy until something better came along.

They aren't even Christians as the love of money and the stomping on the poor define them.

I hope you get my theme, so I’ll just continue. The Catholic Church has a tenet about charity that makes it difficult to develop real wealth. The Reformation and the development of the Church of England allowed their narrowly-defined Protestants to avoid some of the more pedestrian aspects of Catholic teachings. My favorite is the updated version of “charity begins at home” to imply that a man must look his own, first and foremost. I can’t think of a better creed to describe Reganomics.

Many others have said that the only supports of Bush who feel they didn’t get all they were promised are the fundamentalist Christians, but if Bush can get Israel into a major regional war with the Arabs, they might find some real satisfaction after all.

Best to you
