Simply put, entitlements are bad for us, and more generally, the New Deal programs made us lazy, and those of the Great Society made us stupid (to spend so much); and therefore, they all must be dismantled as soon as practicable. If the US treasury is emptied by means of a war, this could sound the death knell that they have long hoped for. So from their standpoint, they have governed “properly” during their tenure.

You might consider Farm welfare under the Bush regime's tenure, and explain how that fits your theory.

When I say that Republicans are incompetent at governance, I'm talking about how Republican governance is for the US of A. I'm not talking about how their governance is bad for the US of A but good for them....that part comes in my 'stealing' statement.

Can you tell me how the following partial list of their governing activities are good for the country:

- 50% increase in the national debt, 1/2 of new IOUs going to foreigners, in just 6 years.

- the largest deficits, fiscal and trade, ever.

- the highest nominal and, quite close to real, gasoline prices ever.

- the worst terrorist attack in US history with the perpetrators at large five years later.

- 400K people displaced after Katrina, billions gone into the slush funds of FEMA and government 'contracting' with few visible results.

- North Korea testing its first little nuke after one botched foreign policy disaster after another.

- Medicare on the edge of destruction.

- The disintegration of Iraq and the subsequent rise of Iran, jihadists and AQ.

- The chaos of Afghanistan and the outsourcing to NATO.

- The destruction of the readiness of the US Military and the National Guard.

- etc.

---------------------
Good governance of our country is not the pillaging and destruction of the treasury, the military, influence, etc. for personal profit. Goldwater wouldn't have wanted that. Not even Reagan, for all his corruption, would have wanted that --- at least I don't think so. Nancy would have liked that so she could wear her tiara in public without giggling.

What I see now is PoppyBush trying to save Junior's bacon AND try to blame everything he can on Clinton. Even he realizes that Republican governance is abyssmal. I don't think even PoppyBush is as extreme as the Junior crowd. I could be wrong about Poppy and Ronnie but I didn't see this type of venality even in Nixon.

Republicans don't care about democracy, they're out stealing votes and gerrymandering TO PREVENT democracy. Republicans want autocracy, aristocracy, dictatorship, monarchy. They want a PERMANENT MAJORITY, PERMANENT POWER, TOTAL POWER.

Listen to Rove, Norquist, Scaithe, et al. They aren't looking to vote for anything. They are looking to be RULERS. They don't care to cater to anyone including the fundamentalist Christocrats unless they have to.

They are looking to CODIFY POWER PERMANENTLY.

We can keep humming to ourselves: it can't happen here, it can't happen here, it can't happen here.

WAKE THE HELL UP. It IS happening here.

Thank you for playing.
