Bush has blown it on North Korea. He did this by disengaging, which guarantees nothing good happens. AT least CLinton's people talked to NK and got somewhere. Sure, they cheated but then we had video cameras in their nuclear plant so we could watch amost everything they did. Much better compared to what we have now which is zero intel and a lot of threats which are impossible to confirm.

Bush blew it even worse in Iran, his actions compelling the Iranians to elect an anti-American extremist.

Bush also blew it by disengaging from his "Roadmap For Peace" and letting Hamas take over. He blew it by pulling out of Afghanistan too early and letting OBL get away. And of course in Iraq he has created the biggest mess since Vietnam.

Bush doesn't have a single foreign policy success in fact. Just failures.

"And the Carter solution was even better? "

Whether it was better or worse isn't really relevant. The fact of the matter is that NK had shut down plutonium production until they decided to call Bush's bluff. And Bush was just bluffing. It is galacticly stupid to threaten and bluster and then not carry through when your bluff is called. That makes your opponent lose respect, which is what happened.

And the Carter solution was even better? Give North Korea nuclear technology even though they're sitting on mountains of coal?

We may never know the answer...it should be noted that NK had a plutonium program well before clinton agreed to give them light water reactors in exchange for the shut down of that very same plutonium program...obviously NK is not a simple matter, but even bush's closest allies (baker for example) think you need to talk to and keep you enemies close(r than your friends actually).

CJ, > So the Bush strategy of threaten and bluster, followed by ignoring and hoping it will go away when our bluff is called, has failed.

And the Carter solution was even better?

Bingo! Maybe a nation that wants nukes can't be stopped esp. when a certain world power has tons of nukes and is unwilling to sign an non proliferation agreement.

What? Do you Republicans think everyone else is stupid and will do your bidding? Bush has made a mess of things and I wish you all could be made to directly clean up the mess......it would serve you right for voting for him twice.
