There is absolutely no reason to split hairs in defense of a totalitarian regime that oppresses its people and threatens the stability of all of Asia.

Of course you are right...but how did we improve their lot by isolating their mad leader? Now we go to even tougher sanctions, assuming that's possible...who do you think will do with even less?

Let's explore the statement "assuming that's possible" by the way ...given the level of distaste engendered by bush and his team around the world, do you suppose that there may be countries out there that would love nothing better than to see us fail in Asia as well as in Iraq? Think about who they might be.

He wasn't "defending" NK... your usual straw man.

"There is absolutely no reason to split hairs in defense of a totalitarian regime that oppresses its people and threatens the stability of all of Asia."

I am not defending them. I do challenge the idea because they were trying to circumvent the treaty, that absolves Bush of responsibility in this. Period. I agree that NK is a danger, and I don't really know what the solution is. But I do know that setting up a situation where they decided to call Bush's bluff and Bush backed down didn't do anything to defuse the situation. It made it worse. And now they did their first test, which meant their design worked and likely gave them information on making future ones smaller and easier to deliver, doesn't make things better either.
