Not that the anti-Americanism is any more rational in itself. I get pretty discouraged whenever I see America being held to a much higher standard than any other country. Maybe we create that for ourselves simply because we're a "superpower that cares," for better or for worse. After all, we're America, no? We're supposed to set an example for the rest of the world. Except that we fall short big time.

We make that claim all on our own. We tell the world we are better. That's why the standard is set high for us.

No need to tell me, Al, despite the personna I seem to exhibit at times. You and I could probably share a lot of incidents where America was indeed doing nothing but being a big bad superpower.

Exactly...and much more so after 9/11. What an opportunity to unite the world, only to give way to lost and failed policies...just to hold on to power. It breaks my heart.

Not quite...we are the "self appointed" leaders of the world. With that comes a level of responsibility that goes beyond the borders of the US. I could easily be happy with giving up some of that role to a world body like the UN, of which we are one of the leading members, responsible to make it work and largely accountable to its direction....but that's not how we chose to have it...not bush anyway, and then only until it's convenient to his purposes.
