NAND flash prices remain firm on the spot market

The Semiconductor Reporter
October 11, 2006

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- NAND flash memory prices in the spot market rose over the last week, although average pricing the highest-density 16-Gbit NAND parts rose only 0.4% to an average $35.91 following a strong rise the prior week, according to the DRAMeXchange.

Supplies of NAND flash should remain tight on the spot market this month, since the top suppliers are reserving most of their production for big customers like Apple, Sony, SanDisk, and Kingston, the market watch firm said.

The average spot price today for 8-Gbit NAND was $16.74, up 2.4% from Monday Oct. 2, while 4-Gbit NAND was $8.25, up 3.4%. The 2-Gbit NAND average spot price was up 3.1% to $5.33, the market watch service said.

Demand for NAND flash on the spot market could pick up over the next week in the wake of a number of Asian holidays, according to the DRAMeXchange.

IMHO an extremely bizarre decision of the DELL management to open the door for AMD just when Intel comes up with a product clearly superior to anything AMD has on offer.
