Would anyone care if there were NO fighter jets who flew overhead...?

Yeah. Lotsa folks expect to see jet fighters. They were a big comfort on 9/11. Whether that is rational or not, and whether they could do anything or not, is another matter.

We had fighters galore over my house today rattling the crockery. (I got the email alert right after I received the one announcing that the plane crash in NY wasn't a terrorist attack. <g>) They're dedicating the Air Force Memorial on Saturday. It overlooks the Pentagon. They are practicing today and tomorrow for the show. Different formations and singles flying back and forth and around. Very pretty, but it felt like they were right atop my chimney. There's something very comfortable about seeing them--contrasted with something very scary about seeing those big boys doing fancy stuff in residential neighborhoods.

No disrespect to the departed, there wasn't any order to shoot down every small plane flying within X # miles of defended cities thank goodness. I'd hate to see what those fighter jets might have to do if it had been a terrorist attack.

I will never forget the erie feeling I had those 4 days immediately after 9/11. Except for the birds.......and even they seemed to sense something wasn't right..........the sky was silent. I was actually relieved to hear and see a Boeing plane fly over head.
