It was Reagan who kept us addicted to Arab oil. Carter's excellent clean energy and efficiency programs would have had us 100% off Arab and Venezuelan oil by now, but Reagan scrapped the entire thing, giving into the oil lobby that wanted us to burn, burn, burn. Now it will cost us am lot more to rebuild those clean energy systems.

Also, Bushies who defeated Kerry-McCain's CAFE standards bill did us a terrible disservice, decimating the US auto industry as it turned out, and stopping a simply efficiency bill which would have saved us more oil than is in all of Alaska.

So if you want look at the root causes of the disaster in Iraq, it goes all the way back to Reagan.
