From the get go, the Iraqis not only hated Saddam but they hated the US too. The idea of US troops being greeted on the streets of Iraq with sweets and flowers was all a baloney. People familiar with the culture of that region chuckled when Cheney and his gang uttered those sentences.

The Iraqis were very suspicious of US intentions and they knew in their minds that the US was after their oil. They came out and voted in large numbers with the hope that the US would leave their country immediately. But the US hung in there and that subsequently we saw an increase in violence.

There isn't an Iraq today. There will not be one even after the US leaves. So it is wise for the US to leave now.
