Alien Technology®, With Oracle and Intel, Unveils End-to-End RFID Solution for Transportation, Automotive and Aerospace
EPC Global Conference

MORGAN HILL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Alien Technology Corporation today announced that it has collaborated with Oracle and Intel Corporation in developing an integrated, end-to-end Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) business solution for the transportation, automotive and aerospace industries. Architected for rapid, low-risk deployment and fast time-to-value, the pre-configured solution will be available at the RFID Solutions Center Dayton for customer evaluation and proof-of-concept, and will be demonstrated at the EPC Global Conference, October 17 -19, 2006 in Los Angeles, CA.

The new combined solution comprises best-of-breed, standards-based hardware and software components from Alien, Oracle and Intel to address the entire RFID data cycle, from data capture and management to seamless integration of RFID data with enterprise systems for real-time analysis, access and response. In addition to the solution components, customers are able to leverage the combined RFID implementation expertise and global services and support capabilities of the three companies to further reduce deployment and operational risk and accelerate their return on investment.

“RFID is becoming a competitive requirement in the transportation, automotive and aerospace sectors as more and more companies deploy RFID technology for increased productivity, real-time visibility into assets, reduced operating costs and enhanced responsiveness,” said Susan Pearson, VP Alliances, Alien Technology. “In turning to Alien, Oracle and Intel, companies gain the unique advantage of a complete, pre-integrated, pre-configured RFID business solution based on proven core technologies and backed by industry-leading professional services to reduce the costs, complexities and time-frames of RFID deployment and to help ensure ongoing RFID success.”

Alien, Oracle and Intel each have a history of advancing the state of the art of RFID technology and of developing RFID-enabled solutions for key industries. The new combined solution leverages each of the companies’ key strengths, including Alien’s leadership in enterprise-ready RFID readers and low-cost RFID tags; Oracle’s strengths in data management, business insight and vertical market applications; and Intel’s expertise in scalable infrastructures and in integrating RFID solutions with enterprise data architectures. Customer-specific implementations include such components as the Alien ALR-9800 Enterprise RFID Reader and Enterprise RFID Platform; Oracle Sensor Edge Server, Business Intelligence, Oracle Fusion Middleware, Oracle Database 10g and other RFID-enabled software offerings; Oracle tools for transportation, automotive and aerospace applications; embedded Intel XScale® technology; and Intel-powered servers, PCs, notebooks and handheld devices.

Target customers for the solution include trucking and shipping operations and integrated carriers with freight tracking and cold chain management requirements. Also targeted are automotive and aerospace manufacturers and suppliers with supply chain management, work-in-progress and asset tracking needs; and airlines, airports and government entities with requirements for baggage handling and airport security.
