To be sure, at the outset, Bush and his Neocons were overly optimistic and had thought that Iraq would be a cinch and that Iran could also be overcome easily.

Even though it is now clear that Iran is stronger than once thought to be, I believe Bush and his Neocons and Israel still hold out hopes of subduing Iran, in the long run, for their long-term goals and mutual benefit.

Rightly or wrongly, I get the impresssion that the Americans would not give up and leave the Middle East because so much is at stake. They may concede one round or two. But they will stick around until they get what they want.
