None of what you say makes the issue a "fiction". Indeed, the disputes are very real. Also, it is evident that the "disputes" arise from the vast strategic resources owned by Canada coupled with a small population, extended land and waterways, and a small military. In other words--supply and demand.

It will likely be necessary for us to negotiate an alliance with the United States due to these factors and due to danger from future oil spills, etc. We already have an agreement regarding this fictional land and these fictional altercations and challenges: The 1988 Canada-United States Arctic Co-operation Agreement.
